Higher welfare harvesting with the Aqua Solundoy

The last months the Aqua Solundoy have been under reconstruction. From beeing a live fish carrier, she is now equipped with a state of the art harvest plant, manufactured by our excellent team in Shetland.

A little over a week from leaving the yard after her extensive refit the Aqua Solundoy has commenced operations for Cooke Aquaculture Scotland. Her first two days of commercial harvesting operations coincided with two successful third-party audits from the RSPCA and the UK’s largest retailer TESCO.  To ensure the very highest standards of fish welfare Aqua Solundoy utilises electrical backup stunning to complement her primary percussive stun and bleed machines. Providing confidence and assurances to our customers and wider industry stakeholders has never been so important given the recent focus on harvesting operations in the UK.

In the first week the Aqua Solundoy had harvested over 75,000 fish, at a rate of over 10,500 fish per hour with an average primary stunning efficacy of >98%. Most importantly customer feedback has been excellent, particularly around quality and efficiency of the harvesting system.
